Tutorial Tuesday........
Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:58AM Ok, we'll see how long this lasts for me....
I would say that a lot of my time has been spent on the internet, researching different techniques and styles. Some are difficult and others are very simple, one's that most designers should know. But I have found that there are many out there who really don't know some simple, quick tasks to achieve what they want.
For the very early learners, I have decided to show how to change the color of an object in Photoshop. Now I am not using the most recent version, that costs money people, and right now that's not in the cards. So I am showing you using PS7. Very old, I know!!!! ( oh, and I know, this is so trivial and something everyone should know, but I thought with my first tutorial why not something simple!)
First of we want to have our document opened. For this I am just starting with a simple black frame that I would like to change the color of.

At this point you will want to have the layer selected in the layers palette of what you would like to change.

From this point you want to select the layers adjustment at the bottom of the layers palette. Then select solid color.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! What happened to my document?.... Don't worry, this is what happens when you select solid color. It automatically pops up the color you have been working with, which could be black or whatever. In this case, I knew I wanted to work with the pink and so my document is filled with that color. You can either select form the box that pops up, or you can choose from your color swatches.

At this point you have selected the color you want your frame to be. Next you will want to have your solid color adjustment layer selected and then hit Ctrl + G to group with the previous layer, your frame. Next you will want to select the arrow to the top right of your layers palette and then select Merge Down. This only affects the layer you have selected and the next layer below it, which is my frame layer.

There you have it. You are done changing the color of a simple frame from black to pink. You will notice that the solid color adjustment layer is no longer in the layers palette, and personally i think is easier so that you don't have so many layers to keep track of.
If you have found that this tutorial has helped you, please let me know. If you would like to see more, I would love to know what kind of tutorial you would like to see and I'll try my best.
My brain is filled with so much information, that I love sharing what I know with others. No one techinique is perfect or necessarily the right one, but it's a starting point for someone to experiment and come up with a system that works for them.
